In August 2018, Garde was awarded a contract by Ausgrid to install 33kV underground transmission infrastructure from Endeavour Energy’s Camellia Zone substation to Ausgrid’s Auburn Zone substation.
Works included conduit installation, joint bay construction, 33kV multicore cable installation, UGOH dressing and cable standing, and fibre installation.
The project’s challenges included constructing the 4 kilometre trench and joint bays within contaminated ground, over bridges and in designated cycleways. Our team also needed to facilitate liaising with two electrical utilities at either end of the project.
A major achievement on this project was hauling the longest length of 33kV 3 core, 630mm2 cable in Australia. The Camellia to Auburn project was completed to program, and without incident.
